Mr. Lavelle was associate editor of Bloomberg Businessweek where he oversaw the biggest expansion of the magazine’s business school franchise in its history, launching an annual feature on Chinese MBA programs, and an annual ranking on the value of a traditional college degree.  Under Mr. Lavelle’s leadership the magazine’s team won the National Magazine Award for interactive service in 2007, and best personal service online award in 2008. Mr Lavelle is the author of “Fast Track: The Best B-Schools” (McGraw-Hill, 2008), a guidebook to the world’s best MBA programs.

QS Managing Director, Nunzio Quacquarelli, speaking of Mr. Lavelle’s track record emphasized that: “QS is a world leader in providing objective, trusted information in the field of higher education. Our mission is to enable motivated young people anywhere in the world to fulfil their potential through educational achievement, international mobility and career development.  To fulfil this mission we have focused on delivering QS World University Rankings, QS World University Rankings by Subject, QS Star Ratings and profiles on undergraduate, masters and MBA programs globally. Louis Lavelle is a higher and business education journalist of the highest quality, with whom we have had contact for many years.  QS is delighted to welcome him as part of our global team to provide richer, deeper coverage of quality educational institutions – and business schools in particular - around the world.”

A Pulitzer nominated journalist, Mr. Lavelle was Bloomberg Businessweek management editor prior to 2005, covering corporate governance and executive pay. Prior to Businessweek, Mr. Lavelle was a reporter at The Record in Hackensack, N.J. In 1998, he won the New Jersey Press Association Award for Business and Economic Writing. Before that he worked at The Tampa Tribune for nearly nine years. Mr. Lavelle has a M.A. from New York University in Humanities and Social Thought. Mr. Lavelle, commenting on his new role highlighted that: “I’m looking forward to working with the QS team to transform TopMBA.com and expand its coverage of the world’s elite MBA programs.”
