German MBA candidate wins QS Community Scholarship to Cambridge

New York City

Matthias Wölm, a German MBA applicant who has been accepted into Cambridge University -Judge School of Business, has been selected as the winner of a the QS Community Scholarship which aims to reward MBA candidates who can demonstrate an exceptional level of socially responsibly leadership and an ability to motivate others.

The scholarship is part of the QS Education Trust, a $1.2 million scholarship program for Masters and MBA candidates who attend the QS fairs.

The scholarship encourages socially responsible leadership among MBA candidates around the world and is open to all attendees of the QS World MBA Tour who have already been accepted onto an MBA program from a business school listed within the QS Global 200 Business Schools: Employers’ Choice.

Wölm’s application stood out against hundreds of other applicants as his passion for social work transcended into meaningful experiences in management, negotiation, and organisation.

“Between 2002 and 2005, I organised street festivals in my local community.  My tasks included the organization of infrastructure and managing the layout of the festival, or even at times, the impersonation of Santa Claus.” Said Wölm, when asked to describe where he given back his time and talent to his community and how it made a difference. “I learned how to deal with stressful situations and sharpened my organisational skills. These fairs are now an institution in our community and people look forward to them every year. I’ve moved away quite a while ago, but still sometimes come back to see how my old area is doing.”

Zoya Zaitseva, Chairman of the QS Scholarship Scheme says, “Our judging panel made up of MBA alumni and education experts were impressed by Mattias’ experiences and how he turned what he learned into business assets. But it is not just the community festival what impressed experts most – it is his current rock climbing training with kids what made his essay stand out.”  She explains, “His ambitious yet socially responsibly nature inevitably led him to a place in one of the most prestigious MBA programs in the world. We hope to be meeting more scholarship applicants with as much ambition and dedication to community contribution in Frankfurt.”

In order to be considered for the scholarship, candidates must register at www.topmba.com and visit the QS World MBA Tour coming to Frankfurt on Monday, 12 March, and to Dusseldorf on Thursday, 14 March.
