Despite the language barrier, China is taking over from India, in terms of their ranking among top Asian Universities. According to the latest QS Asian University Rankings 2011, six Chinese universities have made it to the top 30. India’s pole position starts from 36 with IIT Kanpur.

Korean Universities Move Up in Asian Rankings

Korea's top universities have moved up in international rankings thanks to the wealth of faculty publications and the regard of international academics.

In the 2011 Asian university rankings by the Chosun Ilbo and Quacquarelli Symonds, Seoul National University ranked sixth, and KAIST and POSTECH 11th and 12th. They ranked first, second and third in Korea.

ASIA: Hong Kong and Japan lead regional rankings

One of Hong Kong's newer universities, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), has edged out Hong Kong University to become the top university in Asia in the latest QS Asian rankings released on Monday. But Japan maintains one of the strongest university systems in Asia, dominating the top ranks.

Australian National University has the best ranking to date for philosophy, according to new rankings

SEVEN Australian universities are in the world's top 50 for arts and humanities according to QS Rankings data released today.

The Australian National University came sixth in the world in modern languages, philosophy and geography and area studies, 10th in linguistics, 12th in history and 29th in the final category, English language and literature.
